    Discussion on passat VR6 Turbo 2.9

    Ok Hopefully this is the right place

    I Bought an Edition One passat 35i kombi 1.8 left hand drive

    Now the plans are to fit an AAA 2.9 (block was bored at stealth racing) mid way through 08 with the engine built up and fit into my passat, For management I will be using the later OBD2 loom and ecu bought from ebay.de

    I will let the pics do the talking

    ATP Turbo manifold 12v Ceramic Coated

    Garrett GT3582R 4" inlet 2.5" compressor outlet and 3" V-band discharge

    Peloquin 02A diff kit

    SP Turbo lightened steel flywheel

    Wossner forged 82mm pistons 8.5 CR

    12V VR6 AAA block bored and honed ready for paint

    Eurospec 280mm rear disc conversion

    SP Turbo short runner intake manifold with OBD2 adapter

    1991 Passat estate Edition one in Aubergeine paint and edition one interior

    DSS 500whp drive shafts for VR6 with 02A box with ARP press in wheel studs


    Passat interior

    SX Performance fuel reg adjustable from 35psi to 90psi I wll be feeding the fuel rail on both sides and using the reg for the return to the tank

    Injectors, ARP studs, Valve springs, timing chain kit and giudes,

    Rather than putting the oil return into the sump we are going to drill the back of the block and put the return that way its a lot neater and no oil surge

    I am going to swap the standard cams for some SP Turbo 263 ones they give nice gains over the standard ones

    I plan to just run 1 bar of boost for now and see what happens

    Ok I have a bit of an update Wossner forged pistons are fitted

    Wossners fitted

    And underneath before the crank was put back into place

    And with the crank and ARP main and rod studs in place standard shells and thrust washers



    The head is going to need exhaust valve guides at least so it will be going for a little holiday shortly,
    then the motor can be built up and it will start to look like an engine again :P
    And that may even start to clear out the shed of bits and pieces :lol:

    I have a SP Turbo big valve head fully rebuilt here for my syncro trying not to think about it too much

    Rightio progress is pretty slow but the motor is complete

    Because I am going to run an external oil cooler I took out the OEM water feed to the oil cooler and fitted it with a standard frost plug (no outlet) and a mocal oil take off kit the OEM filter housing had to be modified to fit so I gave it a few coats of engine block paint while I was at it

    I think it looks pretty well






    I will be purchasing a strong syncro gearset from SQS racing in Czech republic shortly

    I mean't to stick a pic of the R8 oil cap up a few weeks ago but hadn't the chance untill now :P



    It needs the rocker cover modified for the cap to sit on and look like it belongs there
    (just needs to be cut and turned 45 degrees and welded back up)

    And had another delivery from Gruvenparts . com



    Aux water pump bracket, Stainless shifter, Corrado rad neck and the Crackpipe



    And the new twin fan set up for a Corrado VR6 rad, Just need to pick up a new genuine corrado VR6 rad now

    Genuine VW Corrado VR6 rad with uprated dual slimline fans and custom bracket with Gruvenparts rad neck



    I am collecting Subframe,Wishbones, Rear axle and mounting brackets during the week and fitting thw wishbones with Powerflex bushes from a MK3 Golf.

    Front bearing carriers stripped and new wheel bearings fitted ARP wheel studs pressed into uprated DSS front 5 stud hubs,
    ABS rings were seized solid onto the standard front hubs will be sorted out early in the week

    Right I got a delivery on friday afternoon

    Green WG spring, 550cc injetcors, ARP diff bolts, 3 of 3" Vbands, adapter plugs for injectors and a set of plugs for 300hp above standard


    ATP Turbo 3" Downpipe I need to get it modified to allow for the wastegate and change over from 4 bolt flange to 3" Vband



    Its getting closer now

    I bought this plate for her

    kinda gives it away :P


    Just ned to get her taxed and mot'd then the transfer can go ahead


    And a set of AP Coilovers and a new VR6 piston ring compressor and then went and done this


    Motor stripped and was looking good for the rebuild with the forged rods but we came across another little problem













    The rods were for an 83mm bore so wont fit down the 82mm bore that this engine is was a mistake on my behalf but sure thats how things go I suppose getting things ordered in a hurry

    Just waiting on the new rods ordered on friday to fit down an 82mm should be here in about 7 working days from friday gone

    VR6 Timing marks hard to see when the engine is on a stand so the second pic gives a much better idea of how it should line up

    Torque settings for the ARP bolts as listed below

    Head studs 85ft/lb's with ARP moly lubricant
    Main studs 60ft/lb's with ARP moly lubricant
    Rod bolts 38ft/lb's with ARP moly lubricant
    Flywheel 48ft/lb's with ARP moly lubricant
    Exhaust studs 20ft/lb's with ARP moly lubricant
